Respiratory Rate and Monitoring

Respiratory Rate monitoring

Respiratory Rate Monitoring is the measure of number of breaths per minute. The normal respiratory rate at rest for an adult is 12-20 breaths per minute. The measurement of respiratory rate helps in identification of conditions such as asthma, anxiety, pneumonia, congestive heart failure, lung disease, use of narcotics, or drug overdose.

It is generally measured by the thoracic impedance method. VinCense provides continual and noninvasive monitoring of respiratory rate from the PPG signal. It is one of its kind in measuring the respiratory rate from the PPG signal. Respiratory Monitoring makes it ideal for use in ambulatory monitoring. Having high respiratory rate is an early sign of pneumonia in children. Thus the early identification of pneumonia and respiratory disorders can also be possible by respiratory rate monitoring.
